History

The national historic district of Polychrome lies at the neighborhood of Four Corners. John Joseph Earley constructed five houses in this area in 1934 and 1935. Montgomery Blair Public High School is situated in this locality. The school was named after a famous lawyer and former postmaster general (Montgomery Blair) during the administration of President Abraham Lincoln. This public high school is well known for its Communication Arts Program.

A few historic houses exist in the former. This is now the place where Edgewood Avenue and Lorain Avenue meet near the North Four Corners Local Park. These residences include the Silver Spring 1939 World’s Fair Home and the Tudor Revival Washington Gas Model Home. It initiated the 1938 housing program in Northwood Park.

North Four Corners Local Park is nestled on a 14-acre property purchased during the mid-1940s. The recreational area features a large building, playground, ball fields, tennis courts and, picnic area.

Present Development

Montgomery County started the initial stage of development at the undeveloped section of the park. This is the portion alongside University Boulevard. Some parts were closed for the safety of park visitors. The public will be informed once the area is opened to park users. Renovation will focus on multiple facilities such as the new sports field and parking area. There will be direct access for vehicles coming from University Boulevard. A new biking path will also be built from University Boulevard to South Wood Avenue.

Visitors can look forward to new paved boardwalks along with a spacious square with outdoor seating. Portable toilet units will be provided during construction. Included in the construction plan are fences, improvement of pavements, landscaping, and a new storm water management systems. Finally, the open area will be filled with a new playground for kids, concrete seating areas and accessible passageways.
