Indoor Exhibits

The Locust Grove Nature Center has indoor exhibits for the whole family. Its oak tree exhibit features a life-sized model of an oak tree, complete with animals that could be found in that habitat. Kids have a blast pushing buttons around the exhibit to learn what each animal sounds like.

Children and adults alike enjoy peering through the wildlife observation area. The circular building offers a 360-degree view of the nature area outside, and with plenty of feeders, there are always lots of animals to see. Visitors can even watch squirrels scurrying through the center’s squirrel obstacle course. In addition to observing the animals outside, guests can also see the Locust Grove’s two resident snakes — a Black Rat snake and a Corn snake. Both species are indigenous to Montgomery County, Maryland.

Outdoor Exhibits

After you’ve seen the observation area from inside, you can step outdoors and check out the squirrels and birds up close. This area also has a small pond where visitors love to watch frogs and tadpoles in the spring.

Spring’s also the time to look for plants – like bluebells and bulbs – in the naturalist garden. Come summer, the same space is filled with butterflies and colorful blossoms. And the fall typically brings seeds and fruit.

If you’re visiting the D.C. area, take some time outside the city, and see what Bethesda’s Locust Grove Nature Center has to offer. Use Affinity for your rides there and back. After a day outside, you’ll be happy to sit back, relax, and leave the driving to us!

It’s also the world’s only museum to take a look at the profession of spying from an international perspective. And its collection of espionage artifacts is the largest to ever be displayed publically.

The museum was in development for over seven years before its opening, during which time countless experts in the intelligence community were consulted to ensure the information presented was well-rounded and thorough. Today, the museum’s board includes former directors and officers from the CIA, FBI, and KGB, among other agencies and organizations.

Visiting the museum

Today, the International Spy Museum boasts over 750 artifacts, along with interactive displays. Visitors enter the museum as young spies who receive cover identities and are briefed on their missions. They learn about the craft of espionage, including: how spies are recruited, what prompts them to accept the challenge, skills and tools needed for the job, how spies are trained, and how they operate. Guests also learn about espionage throughout history, beginning in the biblical ages and moving on to spies of the present era, including revealing celebrities who also served as spies, like Josephine Baker and Julia Child.
